— EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

Skills developed through formal training and work experience.

My interest in finance was sparked by an unusual personal and professional journey.

After earning a degree and a PhD in Physics at the University of Rome, I began a scientific career in the United States toward the end of the 1980s, mostly spent at the University of Chicago. There, I worked on complex physics problems using models on the first networked supercomputers (long before they were known as Cloud Computing).

At the University of Chicago, I started developing a strong interest in economics and finance, both because of certain similarities between mathematical problems in physics and those in finance, and because of the proximity to one of the world's most renowned economics departments. And so, in 1998, I decided to pursue a Master in Business at the Booth School of Business at the same university, where I learned the standard finance and economics fundamentals that are commonly taught.

Building on my scientific background and one of the most famous finance schools, I started my career on Wall Street in 2001 in the alternative funds sector and pension fund consulting. But soon the real trial by fire began. It was there that I quickly realized the huge gap between theory and the reality of financial markets, including the dubious privilege of experiencing the 2008 crisis up close.

Over my more than twenty-year career, I learned the importance of paying attention to the markets without theoretical and/or emotional biases, and of basing my decisions on disciplined analysis of empirical data, leveraging my scientific background and the considerable hands-on experience gained on trading desks.

Too often, unfortunately, I’ve noticed that the pressure to sell financial products to clients is based on models that appear convincing but don’t hold up well under a thorough and, above all, independent analysis.

With my recent return to Italy, I’ve enthusiastically developed the idea of working as an independent financial advisor, so I can help my clients purely in their own interest and without any sales pressure. It’s a model I’m quite familiar with, in fact, because for decades it’s been the predominant model for financial advice in the United States.

Specialized in finance with a Master in Business and Finance from the Booth School of Business at the University of Chicago, and with over twenty years of experience working for Wall Street companies in the United States of America.

Every piece of advice I give is based on solid economic principles and practical market knowledge.
